Next October we will comment on the last developments and new results of the Webometrics ranking at the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). Also we intend to introduce new informetrics model during "Les séminaires SciScI-OST" in Paris (France). Other visits are scheduled to Canada, Mexico or Bahrein. More information about final dates, venues and how to attend will be provided here later.

Our inclusion policy is very open, as any good faith higher education institution with independent web presence can be included in the ranking. The only requirement is that the university has its own webdomain or subdomain (exceptions being the Universities of Helsinki and Oulu). We reserve the right to exclude fake universities, "diploma-mills" and other non-accredited institutions. Distance learning based universities are specially marked. We do not request nor accept data provided by the universities themselves.

The Webometrics Ranking is probably the most complete directory of universities having independent webdomains, with the current counting close to 21 000 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). That means that the total number includes also other non-university higher education bodies so country individual figures are usually larger than the official numbers provided by the corresponding Ministries of Education.

A frequent request from our colleagues is to summarize the best strategies for improving the rank of their universities. The answer is pretty simply: Contents (1), contents (2) and contents (3). First one refers to the amount of contents, increasing their volume by transferring all the information related to the university to its websites.
